My Own Choice
My Own Choice materials were developed in response to the settlement agreement in Capitol People First, et.al. versus Department of Developmental Services, et.al. Specifically the agreement charged the Department with modifying the existing Choices materials (also found on this site), for use by persons residing in large congregate residential facilities to enhance their participation in the individual program planning process. Client's Rights Advocates, at regional centers and developmental centers, are responsible for providing this information and training to the impacted consumers and, to the extent possible, to engage persons with developmental disabilities in the provision of the information to their peers.

My Own Choice Video (YouTube)
My Own Choice features individuals with developmental disabilities living in four different residential support arrangements. Viewers are welcomed into an individual's own apartment, a small group home, a large community facility and a state developmental center to hear about these various living options. The video was produced in an accessible format to assist persons with disabilities when identifying their preferences for their futures. It is accompanied by a companion workbook and sticker booklet useful in independent expression of personal choices. Developed by the California Department of Developmental Services in 2009, Produced by the Board Resource Center.
