Assisting With Self Administration of Medication in Community Care Facilities
This video was designed for training of direct support staff working in community care facilities, but is appropriate for others who may be assisting with self-administration of medication. (More information/Order Video)

Key Implementation Dates

Direct support staff in service levels 2, 3, and 4 community care facilities employed on or after January 1, 2001, have one year from date of hire to satisfactorily complete the first 35-hour training (Year 1) and two years from the date of hire to complete the second 35-hour training (Year 2).

Year 1 and Year 2 - Challenge Test and Training

Both Year 1 and Year 2 Challenge test and 35-hour training are available. Please check with your local ROCP for scheduling.

DSPT Challenge Test Skill Check demonstration

Beginning September 2007 the DSP training Year 1 and Year 2 challenge tests will incorporate a skill check component. The skill check component will require DSPs to demonstrate how to correctly assist consumers with the self-administration of medications, which aligns the challenge test with the requirements of the 70-hour training.

• Additional Testing Requirements: August 10, 2007 letter to all Community Care Facilities, Regional Occupational Programs, and Regional Centers.
