Recreation Therapy Internship

The Porterville Developmental Center Recreation Therapy Internship program is a 720 hour program. The program is certified by the California Board of Recreation and Park Certification, and National Therapeutic Recreation Society. The program is designed to provide each intern with the opportunity to put into practice the concepts and practices they learned in school.

Training:

PDC currently employs 16 recreation therapists. Interns will carry out daily recreation therapy programs for at least 6 -15 clients in individual/small group settings, participate in person-centered planning meetings, document in clients' clinical records, and complete various assessments. Interns will also plan and execute one on-grounds activity for approximately 120 clients and one large on-grounds activity for approximately 300 clients. Interns have the opportunity to observe recreation therapists and other disciplines and attend training and related workshops. A professional library is available for use, with access to the Internet.

• Stipend: $1371-1616 per month
• Studio Apartment available for $238/month

• 260 word essay explaining why the intern wants to complete an internship at Porterville Developmental Center
