Program Six

Program Type:
Intermediate Care Facility (Social & Behavior Intervention)
Program Goals:
Program 6 goals are to: (1) teach, support, and promote optimal growth in making independent life choices in areas which include work, education, leisure recreation, or senior recreation; (2) assist with self-advocacy and behavior improvement; (3) provide an array of leisure options for elderly retired individuals; and (4) provide specialized medical services for clients experiencing general decline due to aging.
Services:
Services include active treatment in the form of residential planning and care to increase independence in self-help skills; to develop communication, interaction, leisure, and work skills; to replace challenging behaviors with personally and socially acceptable alternatives; and to ameliorate nursing problems. Multiple disciplines work as an interdisciplinary planning and treatment team.
Description of Individuals Served:
The Program serves young to senior adults with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities. A number of clients additionally have bipolar disorder. Many individuals use assistive devices. Most individuals have some life skills which give them some independence in their daily lives at work or at home. The people residing in the Program communicate at varying skill levels and many demonstrate socially undesirable behaviors.
