Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) is a treaty that promotes quality of life, choice and inclusion of people with disabilities. The purpose of the CRPD is to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity.

The DDS CAC invited Kathy Guernsey, Education and Outreach Director of the U. S. International Council on Disabilities to lead a statewide Human Rights Forum for advocates and community members to discuss the CRPD and its relevance to everyday life.

The CAC believes that knowing your rights and applying them to everyday life is important for everyone. In order to live by their motto, My Life, My Way, the CAC members wanted to understand more about basic human rights. The CAC guided the development of the booklets and DVD so advocates, families and providers could more about and appreciate the magnitude of the treaty.
