CalABLE, California’s savings plan for people with disabilities, is even more accessible for individuals and families looking to save for the future while protecting their benefits.
A new mobile app makes it easier to manage CalABLE accounts from anywhere. Users can check balances, make contributions, transfer funds, and track savings right from their mobile device. The app is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The CalABLE website and app are also now offered in eight additional languages: Spanish, Chinese, French, Italian, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, and Russian. This update helps more families access CalABLE in their preferred language.
When you open an account, you won’t lose your state or federal disability or Medi-Cal or Medicaid benefits. Your CalABLE account can help you supplement your current benefits with a way to save for qualified expenses. Wages deposited into CalABLE accounts do not get reported as income or assets for programs like Social Security Income (SSI) or CalWORKs. This is so that benefits from those programs are not reduced when people with intellectual or developmental disabilities work.
