California is committed to creating more accessible and affordable housing options for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and their families. We are starting the year strong with the groundbreaking of a new housing development in West Sacramento.

On January 8th, elected officials and other community partners joined the team from Brinshore Development at the site of the future River Grove Apartments. They celebrated the start of construction of the 37-unit affordable housing development. This development will provide housing for individuals and families of extremely low-income households, with a focus on people with IDD and veterans experiencing homelessness. Once completed, 18 units will be reserved for people receiving services from Alta California Regional Center.
River Grove Apartments is expected to welcome its first tenants at the end of 2027.
Projects like these are made possible through ongoing collaboration between regional centers, housing developers, and federal, county and local agencies. The Department helps regional centers cover part of the cost of building new multifamily housing. In return, the developers set aside safe, accessible and affordable units for people supported by regional centers.
Stay tuned for more exciting affordable housing developments this year.
