This year, several new bills were signed into law by Governor Newsom that support and improve services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This document provides a summary of key bills that do many things, including:

  • Make it easier for students with disabilities to transfer into California schools without interrupting their education
  • Clarify what the Ombudsperson can do and what laws keep things private for the people who contact them
  • Get the word out about the CalABLE program and add more ways to contribute, so people with disabilities can be more financially secure
  • Set an expectation for increased dental services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities

These new laws support efforts to strengthen access to services, inclusion, and provide Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities the support they need to thrive.
