To celebrate Older Americans Month, volunteers from the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Program (FG/SCP) of San Gabriel Pomona Regional Center enjoyed a special day of appreciation! This dedicated group of 47 volunteers support 84 individuals with developmental disabilities in Orange County. Providing assistance and companionship through volunteering is a rewarding way for seniors to stay connected and active.
Program Manager Wendy Hemminger shared, “Our volunteers are mentors, tutors, friends, and role models who improve their own lives while encouraging achievement in the communities we serve.” In gratitude for their service, volunteers were treated to a day trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, and lunch at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co.
Seven regional centers throughout California host programs through AmeriCorps Seniors and the Department. This amazing group of volunteers has given over 41,800 hours of service this fiscal year!
