Harbor Regional Center (Harbor) staff packed and distributed approximately 200 backpacks at their Annual Backpack Giveaway. Over 80 individuals and families stopped by Harbor’s Torrance office on August 12, getting ready for an exciting new school year. Another 200 backpacks are on the way to students who could not make the event.

Hector, from 24-Hour Homecare, dropping off some backpacks for the Annual Backpack Giveaway took place at their Torrance Campus on Aug. 12.
The backpack giveaway was possible thanks to the generosity of Aveanna, Cambrian, 24 Hour Homecare, Right Choice In-Home Care/Inspira Behavior, David’s Place, Social Vocational Services (SVS), and Ideal Transit. Harbor extends a special thanks to the amazing volunteers from Social Vocational Services in Torrance!
Supporting Students Year-Round
Harbor supports people with intellectual and developmental disabilities every step of the way. This includes the all-important school years, from age 3 to 22! Your Service Coordinator can help you navigate the educational system. They can:
- Help parents and caregivers prepare for Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings
- Discuss your child’s needs, goals, and concerns
- Join you at the IEP meeting, if requested
- Connect you with an Education Specialist or share advocacy resources to make sure you have the tools you need.
For students in transition programs (ages 18–22), service coordinators also can help explore work experience programs. These programs help students gain valuable job skills and confidence in real-world work settings.
Harbor wishes all students a fantastic 2025–2026 school year filled with learning, growth, and new opportunities!
