A new Individual Program Plan (IPP) template is coming soon! An IPP is a written document people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or their families create with their planning team. The new IPP will follow conversations and planning to support each person to make decisions about their lives and futures. It is one step in an ongoing person-centered planning process. This process is between a person, their service coordinator, and anyone in their lives that they choose or need to include in the process.   All regional centers will use the same IPP, including the agreement form that is part of the IPP process.  When fully rolled out, every IPP will begin with a discussion about the gifts, talents and skills held by each person receiving regional center services.

The new IPP will begin use statewide after January 1, 2025. It was developed with feedback from the public, advocates and system partners. Along with the new IPP, additional resources will include:

  • A video series about using the person-centered practices to develop your IPP. These videos will support each person to start thinking of your own life goals, desires, and supports.
  • An animated video series that explains the IPP and what each person can do to prepare.
  • Guides for the IPP called “Your Plan” and “Your Childs Plan” for individuals and families. This will provide information about what to expect and how to prepare for an IPP meeting.
  • A guide to support service coordinators as they work with individuals to develop their IPP.

The new IPP template agreement form and a guide for service coordinators were rolled out to regional centers on June 28, 2024.  In the coming months, ahead of January 1, 2025, five regional centers are piloting the new IPP and the training material.

If you have questions about the IPP template, please reach out to your regional center. You can also learn more about the IPP process on the IPP page of the DDS website: www.dds.ca.gov/ipp
