Two new guides to help prepare your child or youth for their Individual Program Plan (IPP) meeting are now available! On January 1, 2025, regional centers began using a new format for the IPP. “Your Youth’s Plan” and “Your Child’s Plan” explain the new format, its different areas, and what a person-centered IPP is. These guides also can prepare you and your child or youth to discuss their preferences, strengths, and goals. “Your Child’s Plan” is intended for children ages 3 to 13. “Your Youth’s Plan” is intended for transition age youth and young adults ages 14 to 22.
In the “Your Youth’s Plan” and “Your Child’s Plan” guide, you will find:
- An opportunity to learn about Person-Centered Planning tools
- Tips for before, during and after the planning meeting
- A fillable workbook called “About Your Child” or “About Your Youth”
Using these guides is optional. You can read and fill out the pages on your own. Other people can help you with some parts of the guides, if you wish. “Your Child’s Plan” or “Your Youth’s Plan” pages can be taken to your IPP meeting. The guides can prepare you and your child or youth to talk about the areas of their life that are most important to them.
Additional resources on the Department’s IPP website include the “Your Plan” guide and a video series about using person-centered practices to develop your IPP. These videos provide ways of thinking about your life goals, desires, and supports that may be needed.
If you have questions about the IPP, please reach out to your regional center.
