The Direct Support Professional (DSP) Internship Program is a statewide initiative all California service providers are encouraged to participate in! It’s a great opportunity to hire and keep more DSPs. Each intern placed with a service provider is vetted and paid by All’s Well for up to three months.
Service providers like Matt and Lynda Baker of Shield of Dreams in Orange County are a great example of how this program can help providers to build a stronger team by making it easier to add quality staff.
They’ve hired on several interns through the DSP Internship Program, including Evelyn Leon.
“When I applied for it and then I got hired, I was like “Wow!” – I was not expecting that it was going to be this amazing,” Evelyn said.
Evelyn now spends her days supporting her clients, including Michael. Michael has goals to gain more independence, and Evelyn is supporting him to build on his skills for managing his money and cooking meals.
Shield of Dreams is seeing the impact their growing team is having in the lives of the people they support. “We couldn’t be happier with the program and recommend it to all. It’s been an incredible resource for our company’s growth,” Matt shared.
Service providers supporting the California regional center system are encouraged to partner with the Department to build a stronger, more stable DSP workforce for the communities we serve.
