Community Integration (Social Rec) Grants

In 2021, American Rescue Plan Act provided the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) $12.5 million for Grants for Enhanced Community Integration for Children and Adolescents (Social Rec Grants). Grants will fund projects that enhance and develop integrated and inclusive social and recreational programs for families, children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities in underserved communities.

DDS is awarding more than $8 million to community groups in all 21 regional centers to increase social recreation opportunities for Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities.  Grantees will implement a variety of projects that will provide services in more than 21 languages. The grants seek to focus on communities with limited access to resources and the grant structure encourages recipients to continue serving those with disabilities long after the grant funds are expended.

Grantees are required to report progress toward meeting goals and outcome measures to their regional center. The first progress reports on Social Rec Grants from the RC’s are due to DDS on July 14, 2023
