This back-to-school season is a great time to introduce you to Wes Roberson.
Wes is an education administrator in the Department’s Early Childhood and Youth Services Division. He is passionate about supporting young people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to prepare for life after high school. This includes building pre-employment skills and gaining hands-on work experience in their community.
“There’s a need to help young people navigate the various systems of support, and make sure that they don’t fall through the cracks,” said Wesley.
Wes loves collaborating with regional centers, local education agencies and the Department of Rehabilitation to “wrap around those students so they have a clear pathway to success after high school.”
As students are getting back into the classroom, Wes recommends that parents connect with their students’ teachers as soon as school starts.
“Build that relationship. Build that rapport, so that you can help be a part of the system of support,” said Wes.
