Aging Inclusion Resources

Welcome to DDS’ Aging Resources Webpage. On this page you will find resources and tools that can help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are aging, as well as their caregivers and loved ones.

  • Area Agencies on Aging – this website is a place for older adults, adults with disabilities, family caregivers, and residents in long-term care facilities all over California to find local resources to help with a wide variety of needs.
  • Coordinated Family Support Services – this regional center service option helps with the coordination of services and supports to allow adults to continue living in their family home.
  • Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion Programs – these programs match volunteers/mentors with individuals who have developmental disabilities. There are 21 counties in California that have Foster Grandparent and/or Senior Companion opportunities available.
  • Regional Centers – California’s 21 non-profit regional centers (also called RCs) are the local organizations who identify who is eligible for services under the Lanterman Act. RCs also provide case management services and contract with service providers to make sure Californians with developmental disabilities get the services they need.

DDS and the California Department of Aging are co-leads under the national Bridging Aging and Disability Networks grant. The goal of the grant is to support the cooperation between disability and aging networks at the State level; and to better support individuals with I/DD and their caregivers as they plan for their futures.
