Congratulations to Autism Services Branch Graduate Student Assistant, Matias Solorzano, who was awarded the Cal Poly Humboldt McCrone Graduate Fellowship Award! Matias is a second-year graduate student in the Psychology Academic Research Master’s program at Cal Poly Humboldt and was nominated for the fellowship award by his professors. The award recognizes one outstanding graduate student to acknowledge their potential and encourage their continued achievement in their graduate program.
As this year’s award recipient, Matias gave a twenty-minute presentation about his research in Arcata during the McCrone Scholars award ceremony. You can watch his presentation, Unapologetically Autistic: Academia and Me, on the Cal Poly Humboldt SPF YouTube channel.
Matias plans to continue his education, advocacy, and research in special education and autism studies. He says his goal is to expand opportunities in employment and beyond for people with autism.
“I want to research the transition process in autistic adults, focusing on the employment domain and desiring to increase vocational rehabilitation utilization rates within the autistic adult population,” Matias explained. “Ultimately, I see myself leading a branch at a state government agency working to improve the lives of individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.”
