The symposium is about connection and sharing resources and supports for tribal communities across California. The 3rd annual event in Pala was hosted by Early Start provider Acorns to Oak Trees. This important event brought together tribal community members, regional center staff, and vendors. Mayra Ochoa, the Department’s Service Access and Equity Division Manager, joined a panel on best practices and innovations for creating a unified support network for tribal families of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. There also was a panel discussion about the Master Plan for Developmental Services, including committee member and founder of Acorns to Oak Trees, Season Goodpasture. The American Indian Symposium was put on with the support of the Pala Band of Mission Indians, San Diego Regional Center, and the Department.
