It is an exciting time at the Department of Developmental Services (DDS). So many important and good things are happening to improve services and enhance the experiences of Californians with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD).

That’s why I want to thank you for taking a moment to read our new DDS newsletter. We’ve named it Bridges to emphasize our goals:

  1. To connect our communities to each other; and
  2. To build accessible pathways to services and supports for people and their families.

Sharing timely information and the stories of our communities helps get us there.  Much of what is shared in this newsletter shows how individuals, families, Regional Centers, Service Providers, and so many other partners are working together for the betterment of all Californians.  Resources and services are being streamlined and improved to meet the needs of diverse populations.  Events and outreach are reaching more people in all areas of the State.  People are making incredible contributions at work and in their communities.  We’re thrilled to have this platform to share about those efforts and successes with you.

Community and connection are what will help continue to move developmental services forward. We’re making progress toward a future that is even more inclusive and accessible for all Californians with I/DD.  There’s still a lot of work to be done and I hope this monthly newsletter will support the building of those bridges.  Thank you for supporting these goals so that every person has the information they need to live the happy, healthy lives of their choosing.

With respect and appreciation,

Nancy
