More than 2,830 new social and recreational activities were created through Social Recreation Grants! Over 13,300 individuals and families have benefited from those activities in over 400 different locations across California.
The American Rescue Plan Act provided $12.5 million for Enhanced Community Integration for Children and Adolescents, also known as Social Recreation Grants. Regional centers worked with community organizations to develop the activities with the allocated funding. These activities support children and adolescents with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families to:
- Access integrated and inclusive programs and activities,
- Choose how they want to engage with their communities, and
- Build social relationships.
You can learn more about the grants and awarded projects on the Community Integration (Social Rec) Grants page of the DDS website. Reach out to your regional center to ask about social and recreational opportunities in your area.
