“Everyone deserves a chance in life and that includes the chance to work.  We all have our own strengths and abilities, and we deserve a chance to show that off.  We can do more than what people sometimes think.”– Reyna A, Barista-in-Training at BI Buzz Café

For National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Californians are sharing how they are achieving their goals.  The BI Buzz Café is located inside Kaiser Permanente and is operated by the nonprofit Becoming Independent.  It opened in 2018 and offers training and job placement opportunities for people who are interested in careers in the food and beverage industry.

Reyna wants to start her own business or work in a retail store or hospital someday.  Right now, she’s working on getting out of her comfort zone and developing her job skills.  At Bi-Buzz café, she says she can do both and that’s why she likes it.  She’s learning about customer service and money management.

It’s clear in the photos that Reyna enjoys her job.  She says, “I think my biggest strength is that I’m kind and always stay positive.  I know that people enjoy being greeted with a smile in the morning before they get their coffee.  I’m organized and reliable and always respectful.”   Thanks, Reyna, for sharing your story for #NDEAM2024 on the Department’s Facebook and Instagram!
