“The reason I do this work is it’s important to me and I’m good at it,” said Tapua Gwarada.
For 26 years, Tapua has been part of the team at the Department.
As an office assistant, Tapua handles mail, answers phones, files documents, and supports coworkers with projects. She enjoys her work and the opportunity to learn new things.
Tapua brings both her skills and personal experience to her work. She believes in her ability to do the things she sets her mind to.
“[The Department of] Developmental Services is a wonderful place to be and to work,” said Tapua. “They teach you a whole bunch of stuff you probably never knew about.”
During National Disability Employment Awareness Month, Tapua wants people to recognize the achievements, goals, and skills of people with disabilities.
“It’s important to get the word out, to let people know that there are people with disabilities and that they can do stuff,” she said.
Watch Tapua talk about her work, her experiences at the Department and what she enjoys doing outside of work.
