This holiday season, the Department’s Aging Inclusion team wants to share the Administration for Community Living’s (ACL) Home for the Holidays campaign. The 2024 campaign focuses on raising awareness about common scams targeting older adults and sharing tips to prevent fraud.
Scammers often take advantage of increased holiday shopping and donation requests. They use tactics like asking for gift cards or pretending to be Medicare representatives. In 2023, scams targeting people age 60 and older caused over $3.4 billion in losses. The Eldercare Locator, a public service, connects older adults and caregivers with trusted local resources for fraud prevention and other support. ACL’s Senior Medicare Patrol program also provides fraud education and can assist with suspected fraud.
