You are invited to provide suggested training topics for mediators and hearing officers involved in the Lanterman Act eligibility and service appeal process.
Mediators and hearing officers are neutral persons from the Department of General Services’ Office of Administrative Hearings. They listen to facts about an appeal and help mediate to an agreement or make a decision.
The Department provides training to mediators and hearing officers at least annually. Examples of training includes but is not limited to:
- Information about services and supports
- Rights of individuals
- Relevant laws
- Regulations
- Written guidance and directives
- The appeal process
- Engaging with individuals and families supported by regional centers
