STAR Homes were designed as part of the DDS “Plan for Crisis and Other Safety Net Services in the California Developmental Services System” developed in May 2017. STAR supports individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD), who have medical and/or behavioral conditions that cannot be addressed through community resources. STAR homes provide a person-centered approach, trauma informed care, and crisis stabilization to the individuals so they can successfully transition to a community living setting.

STAR Homes are a safe and supportive environment for each individual, which fosters growth, self-expression, and achievement. STAR helps individuals become self-reliant by focusing on their skills, strengths, and abilities, ultimately supporting their transition to long-term community living. STAR supports adolescents (12-17 years old) and adults (18 years of age and older) who receive regional center services, have I/DD, and are in need of temporary crisis stabilization services for up to 13 months.
